The Love Tank responds to new MPOX vaccine procurement

The Love Tank commends today's announcement of procurement of more vaccines against MPOX (monkeypox).

The Love Tank and others - including experts at UKHSA - made recommendations to the previous government to procure additional MPOX vaccines in October 2022. Those recommendations were rejected by the then Health Secretary Therese Coffey.

In November 2023, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), made recommendations for a routine MPOX vaccination programme for gay and bisexual men to be implemented. Today's announcement brings that programme a step closer.

Dr Will Nutland, Director of The Love Tank says: It is refreshing and reassuring to see the new government following expert advice to respond to MPOX both nationally and internationally. As more vaccines become available in the UK, we look forward to working with NHS partners, DHSC, local authorities, and UKHSA to implement targeted vaccination programmes to those who most need it across the UK

The Love Tank has been at the forefront of the community response to MPOX including implementing "under-the-radar" vaccination events with NHS partners in London.
